Circular economy versus greenwash

Firms boast recycled packaging while increasing total plastic. A circular model designs for disassembly, repairs, and secondary markets. Geography asks for evidence: does less virgin material enter the system year on year? Extended producer responsibility laws push cost back to manufacturers. Critique: recycling exports once masked UK waste; energy to melt glass may exceed savings if trucks haul empties. Strong answers name a policy (landfill tax, bag charge) and a measurable outcome.

Renewable transition lifecycle

Wind and solar cut runtime emissions dramatically, but turbines need steel, concrete and rare earths; panels need silicon and silver; batteries need lithium from arid Chile or Congo with governance concerns. Sustainable resource use includes mining regulation, recycling end-of-life panels, and not repeating fossil injustice in new supply chains. Exam evaluation: still far lower lifetime carbon than coal; imperfect is not equal to useless.
